Yappa was the last Gippsland Lakes fishing boat built in Paynesville in 1966, by Gepff Wiison, who completed his apprenticeship with Charlie Neill.

Dick Sharp fished her 16 years, before teaming up with Paynesville Fibreglass's Martin Hinchcliffe in 1982 to make a mould and build the Plastic Yappa's that are so popular and found all over Victorian waters today.

Julie Dean is now the next custodian of this fantastic piece of Gippsland Lakes Fishing boat history. Yappa is now back on the water after a 2 month major clean up, paint job, signage, new brightwork and timber finishes, the engine refitted, moved back 1200mm to better balance the boat, now that she is not fishing.

Paynesville fishing boats - great local classics

- 10th May 2021

Fantastic to see Yappa restored and I look forward to berthing our ‘Yappa offspring’ - “Isabel” alongside Yappa.

How fantastic it would be if we could see more of these classic design boats being built and on the Lakes.
