Ella could truly be considered the epitome of couta boats, certainly she is one of the largest at 32ft and recently constructed out of the finest Tasmanian timbers and hardwoods.
Ella was built by St Leonards shipwright Brett Almond approximately 14 yrs ago of traditional carvel construction to the highest standards, as a sailing boat she is equipped with standard couta boat fare ie a gaff main and a jib all controlled by traditional means with stainless stropped wooden blocks.
Whilst as a power boat she is powered by a 50hp Nanni diesel coupled to a 3 bladed prop in either guise she would put in a formidable performance.
Ella, because of her size, has all standard couta boat attributes possessing a large centreboard , a centre thwart and other recgonisable features, but she also has a small cabin over the centre board with twin forward bunks and a toilet space.
All in all she is one of the most impressive boats of traditional construction you will find anywhere in the world, and a testament to the skill of her creators
